

Black Diamond DustHere in the mountains, we're raised on soupbeans and Grandma's stories. We learn how to count using company scrip, and never see a real dollar bill unless someone brings one back from town. You know all your neighbors by name, and treat them all as if they were family. Life is hard, but it seems simple. To you no one is poor, because we all have the same amount of everything. All the houses are the same-- little white boxes stained with the same black dust that stains your daddy's fingers. Every home is different, though.
